As we usher in a new year, with that comes the desire for a fresh start. If you’re in the market to start a business or revamp your current business plan, we have a few tips for you when it comes to your business resolutions for the New Year.

Get clear on your goals for the year

In order to make it to your goal, you have to know what that goal is. Start with a few simple steps and ask yourself where you want your business to be in terms of the ‘big picture’. Be clear on the purpose of your business and what you are trying to accomplish with it. Once you have your main goal set, you can then break out a plan into small, tangible action steps to take to help you achieve it.

Make time for your business AND for yourself

Let’s be honest, without you, your business has little to go on. Use part of your New Year’s resolution planning time to incorporate self-care into the mix. Setting self-care goals before the hustle and bustle of life takes over can help you create more space to actually follow through with your goals down the road. By pre-planning ways to take care of yourself before you are wrapped up in the midst of taking care of your business, you will free up time and thought and can feel confident that the time you spend on yourself is still part of your overall plan.

Get a second (or third!) opinion

A fresh set of eyes and thoughts are often of great help when it comes to business planning. This could be a fellow business partner, a friend, family member, potential consumer, etc. The point of asking for help is to find someone that will provide you with constructive feedback and help you brainstorm ideas to get your business moving forward.

Check in on your plan and goals

As the year progresses, it is important to take stock of how both you and your business are doing. By revisiting your business plan and reassessing your goals, you will be able to quantify whether or not things are working and decipher where you are in the process of your goal plan. This check in process will help bring you back to that main goal you set and help you focus on what still needs to be done to accomplish it. Evaluating your plan every so often also allows you to hone in on all the things that have gone well and opens the door for a well-deserved celebration!

Make this New Year’s resolution one you stick to in order to get your new business venture off on the best start possible. Following these few simple steps can add a boost to your year’s beginning and help keep you on the right track in all your business endeavors. Happy New Year!
